HS Mathematics Contest Invitation

Dear Mathematics Team Sponsor,

The Thirty Third Annual Mercer University High School Mathematics Contest will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Your school is invited to enter a team of four to eight participants. Teams will register in Mercer's Medical School Lobby between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. Formal activities will begin at 9:45 a.m. in the Medical School Auditorium. Participants will be allowed to bring and use calculators during the morning exam only. Read the rules carefully for more information about the types of calculators that will be allowed.

During the contest we will use the following categories to classify schools into two categories: Large School and Small School/Independent School.
The “Large School” division includes
1.       Public high schools in GHSA classification 6A and 7A
2.       Non-public schools with school enrollment of 800 or more in grades 6-12
3.       All academic magnet schools
4.       All non-Georgia schools
The “Small School” division includes all other public high schools.
The “Independent School” division includes all other non-public schools and all homeschools.
If a school is described as a “Small School” or “Independent School” but wishes to compete in the “Large School” division, the team may choose to do so.

On the Mercer Mathematics Department Website, you will find:

  1. tournament schedule,
  2. tournament rules, and
  3. reply form

Note: The competition this year will be held at Mercer's Medical School Building. Take the Mercer University Drive exit off of I-75. Turn left onto Mercer University Drive if you are southbound and right if you are northbound. Turn left at the second stop light onto College St. Turn right at first stop sign. Park in the Medical School lot.

The lunch break should provide ample time for participants to dine off campus. The University Center is located on campus and includes a Panda Express, Chick-Fil-A, and other options. In addition, the dining hall will be open, and there are several restaurants that can be easily reached by car from the Mercer campus.

I look forward to your school competing in the tournament.

Sincerely,

Dr. Hope McIlwain
