Old Capital Guard Battalion Annual Military Ball • May 8, 2015 • Milledgeville Country Club, Milledgeville, GA
Cadets attended the combined Military Ball hosted by Georgia Military College. Approximately 200 guests were in attendance which included cadets and guests from Georgia Military College, Mercer University and Georgia College State University. Read more about the Ball in our Spring 2015 newsletter.
Awards Dining Out • April 24, 2015 • Mercer University, Woodruff House, Macon, GA
Bear Battalion's top Cadets were honored during a dining out hosted at the Woodruff House. Dean Lambert was on hand to welcome the Cadets. Cadets and their guests began the evening by playing giant jenga, cornhole or by touring the historic Woodruff House. It was a catered affair; Southern BBQ - pulled pork, smoked chicken, sides and what else but boiled peanuts (Cajun and Regular, My Dear!) Visit Facebook or Flickr for all photos. Bataan Memorial Death March • March 22, 2015 • White Sands Missle Range, NM
Mercer University and GMC Cadets are "all smiles" following the completion of one of the toughest Marathons in the US. As Teams, they trekked through the hot, sandy and rough desert environment, in 5,000ft+ elevations to include an eight mile uphill climb over and then around the backside of the Organ Mountains, in Southern, New Mexico to complete the 26.2 mile marathon.MU/GMC competed with 24 Cadets, with the MU/GMC ROTC Heavy Team 1, finishing in 8th place of 42 ROTC Heavy Teams and in 14th place of 115 Heavy Teams from across the Army and US.Each of the 20 Cadets who entered heavy category carried a 40-50 lbs. rucksack filled with food (over 700 lbs. total ) to donate to the "Food for the Hungry Program." 2015 Senior Trip • March 8-15, 2015 • Normandy, France
|The Mercer University MS IVs traveled to France to study select portions of the Normandy D-Day landings to include effects of terrain at Omaha and Utah Beaches and effects of leadership/training at Pointe Du Hoc in March of 2015. After weeks of preparation, the cadets toured the site of the historic battle on a fully funded trip thanks to the support and dedication of Mercer University.The cadets also visited Sainte-Mere Eglise, the U.S. Airborne Museum, and the German and American cemeteries during this experience.The goal of the trip was to draw lessons learned from the battle as well as develop an appreciation for the profession of arms in which the cadets are about to enter.
2015 Ranger Challenge • January 22-25, 2015 • Camp Blanding, FL
The Mercer University Ranger Challenge Team placed 14th out of 55 teams in the 6th Brigade 2015 Ranger Challenge competition held at Camp Blanding, FL. Sixth Brigade consists of all Army ROTC programs in FL, GA, AL, MS and LA including teams from Auburn University, University of Georgia, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and University of Florida. Notable performances included 2nd place on the M16 Range and 17th place in the Zodiac boat event. The other events were hand grenades, 4-mile foot march, obstacle course, medical triage, rope bridge, commander's challenge and overall course time.
Bold Leader Challenge • November 5-9, 2014 • Ft. Knox, KY
From November 5-9th, 2014, our top team of 11 Cadets competed in the 1st Brigade Cadet Command Bold Leader Challenge (BLC) Competition held at Fort Knox, KY. The team was comprised of the top performing Cadets from our internal Ranger Challenge held on October 17-18, 2014.
