Service Learning

Students

"Therefore search and see if there is not some place where you may invest your humanity."  -  Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)

The College of Liberal Arts on the Macon Campus encourages Mercer students to commit to living as engaged and informed citizens. This intention is reflected in the offering of service-learning courses that include civic engagement as an important component of the learning experience.

A College with a Conscience

Mercer was one of 81 colleges and universities across the nation to be selected as a "College with a Conscience" by College Compact and The Princeton Review. The designation recognizes Mercer's commitment to fostering social responsibility and community service.

Crossing Cultures, Changing Lives

Mercer On Mission is a global engagement initiative that blends service-learning and study abroad in partnership with world Baptist service organizations in order to build community infrastructure and deliver relief assistance. During the summer of 2007, the program will send three teams of up to 20 students each to Kenya, Guatemala and Brazil. The five-week academic program, which is designed for undergraduate students on Mercer's Macon campus, will include two weeks of study on the campus and three weeks abroad.
