The Art department offers a contemporary comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to visual art education in an intimate setting.
Located in historic Macon Georgia, the Mercer University Art Department is housed on the quad of Mercer’s beautiful Macon campus and in the downtown in our new studio/gallery complex. We offer a BA program in Studio Art, Graphic Design and Art History and a new interdisciplinary BFA program where students work in and across a wide range of disciplines including, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Photography, Digital Media, Sculpture, Public Art, Performance, Video, Installation and Ceramics.
Embedded in the culture of Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts, students are afforded an excellent cross-section of academics, culture and a distinctive southern ambiance. The Art department offers a contemporary comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to visual art education in an intimate setting. Coursework and class related activities encourage the investigation of current directions in art, imaging and visual communication and promote the development of projects that address diverse approaches to successfully communicate complex ideas. A solid foundation in the visual arts along with advanced course work in aesthetics, art history and theory solidify the educational experience.
Through the combined experience of professional practices, internships, senior project and exhibition, the students develop a cohesive portfolio for either admission to a graduate program or the pursuit of a career in the visual arts in a rapidly evolving visual and technological world.
